FRINGE FRIENDS

A project exploring the possibilities of up-cycling "selvage," the edges of fabric produced during the weaving process. The selvages come from the only remaining name tag factory in the Netherlands. Those are fringed tapes with colors that vary according to the brand logo designs. Inspired by the unique appeal of this material, the project aims to repurpose it into new products and artworks that highlight its distinctive characteristics beautifully and sustainably.

-This project will be exhibited at Dutch Design Week 2024

Form 1: Installation

We create vibrant Propeller Flowers that spin and bounce by attaching coil springs to fringes, showcasing the material's potential and sparking curiosity.

Form 2: bags

We offer unique fringe products, including patchwork drawstring bags from discarded fabric, pouches from reused fringe lint, and compact, stretchable totes. Each piece features a one-of-a-kind material and color combination, adding extra value and making the search for your favorite design enjoyable.

Form 3: Furniture

We propose an eco-friendly invention for decorating furniture, railings, and objects. Utilizing tape-like fringe characteristics, it adapts to 3D shapes, wrapping without measuring or causing damage. This addresses the short lifespan of products by giving them new life, adding texture and color while hiding damaged parts. This sustainable method encourages interaction and affection, transforming interiors with a fresh, vibrant look.
