Gathering KINOKO

Collaboration with Fabulous Fungi, naturally dyed using fungal pigments. The design is inspired by the intricate and organic structures of fungi.

KINOKO means “fungi” in Japanese.

The name “Gathering KINOKO” reflects the design’s core concept, combining the idea of mushroom foraging and the gathering technique used to create its wavy, mushroom-like texture.

Materials: Cotton & Wool

Although the same orange fungi pigment is used, the color varies depending on the material. On wool, it appears more yellowish, while on cotton, it takes on a pinkish-orange hue. The chemical reactions within the materials always bring a sense of wonder and discovery.

同じオレンジのキノコピグメントを使用していますが、素材によって色合いが異なります。ウールでは黄色っぽいオレンジに、コットンではピンクがかったオレンジに染まります。素材の化学反応はいつも不思議で、発見に満ちています。

Fabulous Fungi is the solution to one of the major problems in the fashion industry; the use of synthetic textile dyes. Enormous amounts of harmful chemicals are involved with this conventional dyeing method, which causes water pollution, health problems and a significant demand of water and energy. Fabulous Fungi employs fungi in order to create sustainable and safe textile dye, without the use of harmful chemicals. The biochemical processes of these fungi produce pigments. These pigments, which form the basis of the textile dye, are biodegradable. This means it won’t cause any water pollution. In addition, fungal dye requires less water and energy. All in all, fungal dye will have many benefits over synthetic textile dye and other alternatives.
